Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison

Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Meghan Thee Stallion in 2020. On Tuesday, the court sentenced Tory Lanez to 10 years in prison.

A jury found Lanez, whose full name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted of three felony charges in December in the 2020 shooting and wounding of rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

The Canada native’s legal team requested that he receive only probation and plans to appeal his sentence

Meghan Thee Stallion testified during the trial that Tory Lanez shot her in the back of the leg and she screamed to run away from the SUV they were riding in together in 2020.

At the time of the shoot, Megan Jovon Ruth Pete and Tory Lanez were returning from a party at Hollywood star Kylie Jenner’s hilltop home.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford said during the sentencing hearing that other people along with the man who fired the gun on Megan Jovon Ruth Pete called Lanez “always, charitable and good.”

The judge said, “Sometimes good people do bad things. Actions have consequences, and that’s not the case in this case.”

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon praised Megan for her incredible bravery in not only coming forward and reporting the crime but reliving the tragic events months before the public.

Gascon said women, especially black women, are afraid to report crimes like assault. Because they are often not believed. I admire Megan for her incredible bravery and vulnerability as she endured months of investigations and court appearances where she had to recover.

George Gascon added, “This case highlights the many ways we need to improve our society for women.” Many thanks to the Deputy District Attorneys who worked long hours to ensure justice was served.

He also thanked all Los Angeles Police Department officers for their thorough investigation. The court received Lanez’s letter of support. Including a letter from Lanez’s six-year-old son. The rapper’s father also spoke to the judge during Monday’s hearing as Lanez broke down in tears after losing his mother at age 11.

Megan Thee Stallion, on the other hand, detailed the daily turmoil she endured in a written statement on Monday.

Since I was brutally shot by the accused, I have not felt a single day of peace, he said in the statement. Slowly but surely I recovered and came back. But I will never be like that again.

It was written earlier Monday that Megan was a vulnerable victim when she was shot but that Lanez was not cruel or ruthless in his shooting. So both reasons can influence punishment

The judge had earlier rejected a motion by Lanez’s legal team seeking a new trial on May 9. Lanez’s legal power was tied to an Instagram post that his lawyers said was improperly admitted into evidence.

They said Megan’s testimony that Lanez begged her not to go to the police because she wasn’t on parole and would get in serious trouble was both untrue.

In a sentencing memo, Lanez’s legal team argued that the evidence convicting the rapper was questionable at best and that his lack of remorse should therefore be considered for sentencing.
